影片讲述了4名知识青年的人生经历。民族音乐专家纪光明受邀回到爱恨20多年的县城，在收集花灯资料过程中巧遇知青时代的恋人徐静茹的女儿——王明静，由此引出20年前上山下乡的回忆……。弃少苏牧在向女友林欣悦求婚的当日遭到背叛，心如死灰之时得知自己喜欢的救命恩人并非林欣悦而是其闺蜜陈雯雯，于是苏牧向陈雯雯求婚，却不料激怒了林欣悦，联合奸夫孙腾飞对他动手，关键时刻秘书柳雪赶到解围。不死心的林欣悦记恨苏牧，迁怒陷害陈雯雯。Framing StoryDr Martin (Robert Powell) arrives at a secluded asylum "for the incurably insane" to be interviewed for a job by the wheelchair-using, authoritarian Dr Lionel Rutherford (Patrick Magee).
